When you think of Costa Rica, you immediately think of tropical and warm weather. However, do not only prepare for packing summer clothes when travelling to Costa Rica, because in certain mountainous regions such as Monteverde or San Gerardo de Dota, but also in San José it can be a lot colder. Therefore, the clothing items are recommended to pack:

• Summer clothing: shorts, tops, dresses, skirts, t-shirts
• T-shirt with long sleeves: to keep mosquitoes away when you enter the jungle
• Light long pants: to keep mosquitoes away when you enter the jungle
• Sweater or fleece cardigan: for when you are still out in the evenings in mountainous areas and the city of San Jose
• Walking outfit: sports leggings, long pants, quick-drying clothing
• Raincoat: handy during the rainy season, but also during the occasional tropical shower during the dry season
• Bikini / swimming trunks: you can usually use (beach) towels from the hotels
• Swimming shirt: to prevent sunburn when you go snorkeling
• Cap / sun hat
• Sunglasses

• Hiking shoes / sneakers: with profile for walks in the jungle or mountains.
• Flip flops
• Water sandals: handy to add to your packing list for water activities such as rafting in Costa Rica. But also if you take a dive in a lake, waterfall or beach with many rocks.

• Personal toiletries: If you forget something, you can easily buy everything in San Jose or at other destinations. Soap and shampoo can be found in most hotels where you stay. Note that electrical appliances from Europe, such as electric toothbrushes, shavers and hairdryers, do not work properly in Central America due to the voltage. Everything here works with 110 volts.
• Sunscreen: with high protection factor and after-sun.
• Mosquito repellent with DEET and something for after a bite.

• Personal medication: bring an official overview of medication with you if necessary.
• First aid kit: painkillers and anti-inflammatory medicine come in  handy. They are also available around Costa Rica. All towns and villages have well-stocked pharmacies. Furthermore, alcohol or wound disinfection measures are also useful to bring along.
• Antihistamine tablets in case of an allergic reaction on mosquito / insect bites.
• Medication for travelers’ diarrhea is useful, as are tablets for car and seasickness.

• Travel guide and / or bird guide of Costa Rica: a large part of your preparation for your trip consists of  the anticipation of what you want t0 and can see.
• Binoculars and / or camera: to spot beautiful birds / animals
• Travel adapter: due to a different power socket a travel adapter could be useful if you’re travelling from Europe, so you can continue to charge your phone, camera and / or laptop / tablet / e-reader on vacation as well.
• USB charger: if you are driving around in a rental car, it is handy to bring a USB charger to use in your car.
• It might be handy to have some USD on hand for your first / necessary expenses once you arrive in Central America. You can also pay with USD in most places in Central America, which is handy for tours and extra expenses at the hotel (prices are often in USD). It is not advisable to take Euro with you, because you first have to change these at a bank and that is often a time-consuming job. You can also use the ATM’s at the airport in San Jose to obtain some local currency upon arrival.
• Make sure your debit card has global coverage before arriving in Central America and don’t forget your credit card, otherwise you will unfortunately not be able to receive your rental car.
• Make sure you make copies of your bank cards and passports and store them well before departure. Make a note of the emergency numbers of your travel insurance and Edventure. We are only one call away from you if you need us!
