Plan less and more ‘go with the flow’ and just see where life takes you. With these intentions, Ed Smit started Edventure in 2005. Since then, Edventure has grown into a tour operator and travel agent with 4 team members.
Edventure wants you to connect to the real Central America: meet the locals in Costa Rica, Panama or Nicaragua, explore the vibrant jungle and stay at unique hotels and lodges, all with their own personal story. We care for Costa Rica’s exuberant nature and work with partners (our hotels and rental car providers) who attach great importance to sustainability, who intend to be frontrunners in this field.
When you travel with us, you avoid the touristic hotspots as much as possible. You can book your individual round trip and explore the country in your own tempo by driving a rental car, but you can also join one of our special yoga and meditation group trips.
We compile tailor-made trips for you, your wishes are central. Because we are living in Costa Rica we know all destinations and accommodations from personal experience and we visit our hotel and other providers on a regular basis. In this way, we are able to help you compile your perfect holiday. The personal contact with our clients is what makes our work so fun!

“Find Edventure … and live your dream” is what we stand for. We have been active as a tour operator and travel agent in Central America since 2005. We offer packages and tours in Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua and are constantly updating our offer and searching for new, great destinations in this beautiful part of the world.
Sign me up!Ed arrived in Costa Rica in 2002 to live and work in horticulture. He started Edventure in 2005 and a hobby grew into a serious business!
‘Rancho Margot is one of my favorite destinations, because of the great story behind the creation of this beautiful place and the impressive vision of the owner and his team. Sustainability is not a buzzword here, but a way of life, something you experience together. ‘
Renée lives and works in Costa Rica since 2009 and joined Edventure upon her arrival. She did not have a specific tourist background, but at Edventure, it’s all about offering our own favourite destinations!
‘The Caribbean coast is my favourite region to explore with our vintage VW van: the laid-back atmosphere, friendly people and delicious food create an instant holiday feeling!’
Linda has been living in Costa Rica since 2003. After having worked with a breeding program for red Macaws (to release them in the wild), she was a tour guide for Dutch travel organizations. Linda has been working with Edventure since 2008.
‘Corcovado is my favourite destination because here you still find pristine nature and the most exotic animals such as the red macaw, toucans and tapirs. My most impressive experience was to spot a puma during one of my hikes! ‘
In 2017, Anouk moved from the center of a Dutch city to the countryside of Costa Rica from where she enjoys nature and the Pura Vida mentality in the middle of the green hills.
‘In Costa Rica I very much appreciate the friendly people in addition to the beautiful nature. Wherever you go, everyone is just as likely to chat with you. It is a country where you quickly feel at home.´
After roaming the world as a professional adventurer, Ernest landed in Costa Rica in 2015. Here he has spent the past few years working as a nature educator, guide and field biologist in different regions of the country. In 2023, he started as part of the Edventure team.
‘To my great surprise, I discovered that in Costa Rica, there is still a lot of real Tico culture to be found if you venture off the beaten track. It is therefore not easy for me to pinpoint one favourite region. Every interaction with a rural Tico makes me feel at home. This is how I ended up in Turrialba myself. This region, although increasingly visited, has managed to retain its authentic Tico culture.’
Many of our trips are actually sold by our customers. They do this by sharing their travel experiences with family /friends/acquaintances, but also by informing other enthusiastic travellers interested in Costa Rica and Central America. They do this for example during the Holiday Fair in the city of Utrecht in January of each year.
Every Edventure client who in turn ‘sells’ a trip, receives a commission. Edventure pays 2.5% of the total travel amount in cash or 5% if spent on a new Edventure or used to support one of the Edventure projects.
