Rafting in Costa Rica is an unforgettable activity for young and old! There are several rivers in Costa Rica that are very suitable for rafting. In this blog we list our favorites:

Raften op de Rio Sarapiqui

Raften op de Rio Sarapiqui

Level II-III. From 7 years old.

The Rio Sarapiqui River is located near Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, a village best known for its many pineapple plantations. However, there is also a lot of untouched nature to be found which you can certainly enjoy while rafting. Along the way you will spot many water birds, but also don’t be surprised by a flying toucan or a troop of howler monkeys.
On the Rio Sarapiqui you can raft on multiple levels (from II to IV) which makes it very suitable for any age. If you want to go rafting in Costa Rica with your kids, this river is a perfect option!

Would you like to add this rafting trip to your itinerary in Costa Rica? Great idea! Also consider to spend the night, because, vbsides rafting, the region has much more to offer. We offer several types of accommodations in Sarapiqui. For example this beautiful boutique hotel and this farmstay on a family pineapple farm.

The following itineraries make a stop in Sarapiqui:
👉2-week family trip
👉3-week family trip
👉2-week tour Off the beaten track
👉3-week tour Off the Beaten Track

Raften op de Rio Pacuare

Raften op de Rio Pacuare

Level III-IV. From 12 years old.

Rafting on the raging waters of the Rio Pacuare is on the wish list of many Costa Rica travelers. Rightly so! It is an unforgettable and exciting experience to conquer this river. Although it is quite a lot of paddling, there is also plenty of time to enjoy the impressive views and animal life. You paddle through the rainforest, past waterfalls and through high gorges. Along the way you will spot dozens of species of (water) birds, but perhaps also monkeys, sloths or other animals.

Turrialba is the base for rafting on the Rio Pacuare. You can stay overnight in Turrialba and make a day trip, but you can also opt for a two-day trip. In that case you spend the night in a beautiful lodge on the river and you go rafting for two full days.
As far as we are concerned, both options are awesome! We offer unique lodging in Turrialba, but we can also book the multi-day tour for you.

Do you want to know how you can fit rafting on the Rio Pacuare into your Costa Rica trip? Take a look at our example trips:

Raften op de Rio Savegre

Raften op de Rio Savegre

Level II-III. From 6 years old.

The Rio Savegre is located on the Central Pacific and is very easily accessible from Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Matapalo, Dominical and Uvita. Rafting on this river is therefore very easy to fit into any Costa Rica tour and is also suitable for young and old. Kids from 6 years old are already allowed to raft on the Rio Savegre because it is on level II-III. This makes this river one of the best options for families!

Our favorite base for this full-day tour is this spectacular glamping site in Savegre. But you can also make the trip from our favorite accommodation in Matapalo or Dominical, for example.
Also take a look at the tours below. They all serve the Central Pacific and are therefore suitable for rafting on the Rio Savegre:

👉2 weeks of Pure Nature
👉3 weeks kids trip
👉3 weeks Nature trip
👉3 weeks Off the beaten track
