In this adventurous 18-day camping combo trip you will get to know Costa Rica from a unique perspective: From the tent on the roof of your 4×4 car! As a part of this trip you will be camping in Costa Rica with your own off-road vehicle.
You decide what your view and surroundings will be! Do you want to wake up at a tropical beach or do you prefer to park your camping vehicle in the jungle or next to a volcano? It’s all possible! In Liberia, it is time for the switch. Here you will receive a comfortable rental car with which you will travel to Monteverde. This is literally and figuratively one of Costa Rica’s highlights!

Monteverde is a famous mountain village at an altitude of about 1400 meters. What makes the area so unique is the mystical cloud forest in which Monteverde is surrounded. Explore the forest on a scenic walk across suspension bridges strung between the treetops. Or fly through the forest like a real Superman on a zipline tour!

Also enjoy the delicious coffee, chocolate milk and cheese, which are real specialties from the area!

After the cool climate of Monteverde, head back to tropical temperatures. Dominical is a small village on the South Pacific and a true surfer’s paradise. Besides the good waves for (beginning) surfers, Dominical is also known for the Nauyaca waterfalls and the nature tours at Hacienda Baru.

You can learn to surf there or just enjoy the beautiful beaches. Between the beach of Dominical and the city of San Isidro you will find the beautiful waterfalls of Nauyaca. You can reach this place after a brisk walk or on horseback (8 kilometers). The lovely fresh water at the foot of the waterfall is a perfect start to your day!

Kayaking, SUP’ing and rafting are other adventurous activities you can do here. The marine national park Marino Ballena in Uvita is also worth a visit for a boat trip at sea. You can see dolphins there all year round and between mid-July and mid-November and from mid-December to April you also have a chance of spotting humpback whales.

In the village of Sierpe you will leave your car today. From here you will depart by boat to Drake Bay. The boat trip is an adventure in itself! You sail through the mangroves of Sierpe then you go out into the open sea towards Drake Bay. With a little luck you will see dolphins during the trip at sea and in season even whales!

Drake Bay is a beautiful bay near the unique Corcovado National Park. Located in the south on the Osa Peninsula, this park is one of Costa Rica’s most isolated nature reserves. This unique piece of tropical rainforest is home to ecosystems found nowhere else in the world and thus you will encounter animals that are almost impossible to find in their natural habitat in the rest of Costa Rica, such as the tapir, anteater, puma, jaguar and ocelots.

From Drake Bay you can take a guided hiking tour in Corcovado. Around the uninhabited island of Isla de Caño you can do beautiful snorkeling and diving.

Today you will drive to the foot of Chirripó, the highest mountain in Costa Rica. Its beautiful name means “the land of eternal water. This is because of the many crystal clear rivers that meander through the landscape. The patches of mist from the cloud forest give the area a fairy-tale atmosphere.

If you love hiking and waterfalls, the Cloudbridge private reserve is worth a visit. It is one of the few cloud forests in Costa Rica. The views in the park are breathtaking and together with the large amount of birds you will hear here makes your stay here a special experience. In the reserve you can look for, among others, the beautifully colored quetzal and its cousin the trogon.

A visit to the hidden gardens and the small cheese factory is great fun. The farmer has his own cows (which you can help milk if you like) and makes cheese every day which he sells at the local market.
