Ecolodge in the heart of San José

San José is where your holiday starts. The city is the capital of Costa Rica and is located in the Central Valley, surrounded by green mountains. It has a compact city center with narrow shopping streets and markets where you can buy almost everything, from exotic fruits and vegetables to bikinis and local rum.

In recent years, many neighbourhoods in the center of the city received a facelift. Nowadays, Barrio Escalante is the place to be for a nice dinner or drink in the evening. Here you find a great variety of nice restaurants and bars, offering local and international cuisine. As well, you can have a great meal at the hotel’s restaurant.

  • Perfect location to start or end your holiday
  • Vibrant city center
  • Nice parks
  • Covered markets
  • Great for day trips

Cynthia

We only stayed one night at hotel Ave del Paraiso. We got a good nights rest. We loved the friendly ambiance and garden. Close to shops and restaurants as well.

Mike and family

I stayed here with my wife and two kids. We arrived late but slept great. The next morning we did some exploring, everything was close by. There is even a shopping mall, great for people like us who forget their sandals at home.

We decided to stay 2 nights in San Jose to be able to get a good rest and explore the city. Hotel Ave del Paraiso is a great startingpoint. Even though the city is quite busy, inside the hotel you don’t feel that. As well, loved the meals! They told us they grow most of the vegetables themselves.

Inside tip: Freddo's Fresas

Inside tip: Freddo's Fresas

The family-owned restaurant Freddo’s Fresas is an institute in the area. Costa Rican family’s love to have lunch at this famous place, and we do too.

We recommend you to order a Casado (rice and bean dish with either beef, pork, or chicken) with a batido de fresa (strawberry milkshake). After your meal, I recommend you to cross the street. Once the family home stood here, but the earthquake of 2009 destroyed it. They decided to replace it with a hummingbird garden, so you can enjoy these marvellous colourfull creatures.
