The little town of Boquete is the ideal starting point to explore the beautiful cloud forests or to visit a coffee plantation in Panama. This mountain village is known for its pleasant climate and excellent coffee (actually, many more crops are being produced in the region). Boquete was founded in 1911 by a group of mostly Europeans. They regarded this attractive area with cloud forests and coffee plantations as a perfect new home. Since that time, Boquete has grown into one of the most important agricultural production areas of Panama and here some of the best coffee in the world is being produced.
The Baru volcano is the only volcano in Panama and it’s definitely worthwhile to hike to the top. From here you enjoy fantastic views and when the skies are clear you can even see the two oceans! Our tip is to leave really early, so you’ll see the sunrise in the morning.
Follow the Quetzal trail in search of this mythical bird. And of course, if in Boquete the ‘best coffee in the world’ is being produced, you better go on a tour to check that out. In addition, you can also explore the region on horseback, visit the botanical gardens or relax in the local hot springs.
Sports enthusiasts can also go rafting, climbing or book a canoe trip. In Boquete, you won’t get bored!
In Boquete, you stay in a comfortable hotel with a beautiful garden, at walking distance from the town centre.
Hiking is really the thing to do in Boquete. Please note the weather can be cool here, make sure you bring a warm sweater. Afterwards, it is wonderful to warm up by the fire and a hot cup of coffee in one of the cosy restaurants or coffee shops in the village.
