Because of its location at an altitude of 1,200 meters and bordering Panama, many different species occur here. Also species that are endemic to this region. Besides birds, there are also many species of butterflies, mammals and reptiles and amphibians. In other words, a beautiful nature destination!
What once started as a botanical garden grew into a biological station where today students can still go for their research. As a visitor, you will learn more about the history of the site and the region during the interesting guided walk. Coto Brus was in fact inhabited mainly by the indigenous population, around 1940 the first settlers came to the region. From 1950 a group of Italian settlers came to the area and since then the population here has grown. But, of course, you will also learn about the plants and animals you encounter on the grounds.
As a visitor, you will stay in your own private room on the grounds of the station. Meals are served “family style,” along with other guests, students and scientists also staying at the organic station. In addition to the hike included in your stay, additional tours can be booked.
