Stay in a sustainable ecolodge in the Caribean jungle

This gigantic 1200 ha lush green rainforest in the Caribbean jungle barely escaped deforestation a few years ago. But, because of the determination of the owner of Selva Bananito lodge, the area has been preserved. But the struggle is not over, during your stay you will learn, hear and see more about the importance of nature conservation.

If you are a bird and nature lovers, you’ll find yourself in paradise at Selva Bananito Lodge. Therefore, booking a guided hike is a must-do while staying here. As mentioned,  the Costa Rican family with German roots will tell you all about nature conservation, but they will certainly pamper you with great food and drink as well!

In the evening, you will be eating together with the other guests at a large table, a fun, and pleasant experience. After dinner, you can enjoy a private frog concert from the balcony of your cottage, after which a good night’s sleep is guaranteed!

Caribbean Jungle Ecolodge Selva Bananito

You find this incredible lodge on the Caribbean side of the country. From the small town of Bananito near the coast, it is a 45 min bumpy ride to the lodge in the heart of the Caribbean jungle

CONSERVATION AT ITS BEST! At Selva Bananito Lodge you will see high-quality conservation progress and efforts. Surrounded by pristine jungle with all its charm and sounds you stay in beautiful private cabins and enjoy delicious locally sourced meals.

By building an ecolodge from waste-wood they made sure they would have the means to protect this unknown piece of rainforest on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica near ‘La Amistad Biosphere Reserve’. This is a true example of what a sustainable hotel should look like. We are proud they are part of the Green Circle Experience

Sustainability at Selva Bananito

Sustainability at Selva Bananito

In 1996 Fundación Cuencas de Limón (FCL) was established by Jurgen Stein, the owner of Selva Bananito Lodge (he would love to tell you about it in person). This foundation was established to protect the watersheds of the southeastern mountain region of Costa Rica. This area is the main water source of the city of Limon and other Caribbean towns like Puerto Viejo de Talamanca and Bananito.

The foundation makes a big effort to expand the biological buffer, hire guards to report illegal logging and hunting, educate the local people, and expand the conservation efforts. As well, they try to change legislation to make sure the government does more to protect the area.

By renting our electric rental car ‘La Selvita’ 10% of your daily car rental goes to this project. So you directly help the preservation of the forests of Costa Rica.

Explore the area

During your stay at Selva Bananito you can enjoy many activities to explore nature and have fun.

Have you ever flown in a Gyrocopter? Well, this is your chance to fly (as a passenger) in this small, lightweight aircraft. The views of the Talamanca mountain range and the Caribbean ocean are stunning!

If you haven’t had enough adrenaline, you can go rappelling or horseback riding. And if you want to connect more with nature you can take (guided) hikes through the pristine forest, plant a tree, or even climb one.

I always dreamt of visiting the rainforest, and staying at Selva Bananito Lodge made that dream come true. There is no way to describe waking up surrounded by endless rainforest, and those howler monkeys in the morning, WOW.

Johnssen family

We decided to stay in Selva Bananito because we love the fact they do so much to protect the rainforest. We really wanted to learn more about that. Jurgen is incredibly enthusiastic about it and really helped us understand the project and the necessity of preservation. We had a lovely stay and recommend everybody to stay there as well.
