Corcovado National Park

Drake Bay is a beautiful bay near Corcovado National Park. Corcovado is one of Costa Rica’s most isolated nature reserves and is located on the Osa Peninsula in the south of Costa Rica. This unique tropical rainforest is home to ecosystems that are not found anywhere else in the world. Here, you can still spot animals such as the red macaw, the tapir, the puma, the jaguar and ocelots in their natural surroundings. You spend the night in a beautiful eco-lodge and the jungle is your backyard, a great way to explore Drake Bay Costa Rica!

Tours to Corcovado

Freek Vonk (a Dutch biologist and tv host who visited Costa Rica via Edventure to shoot his show ‘Freek in het wild’) spotted a puma near the lodge in Drake Bay. Maybe you’re as lucky as he was! There are beautiful tours to be made in Corcovado National Park.

You can opt for a day tour (hike) to Corcovado National Park or a snorkelling trip to the deserted island of Isla de Caño. The hotel can help you with making reservations for other activities as well. If you don’t want to book an additional activity, you can still truly enjoy the area. The nearby beach is perfect for long walks and to take the time to relax. Enjoy the views from your hammock and fully immerse youself in the beautiful setting…

In Drake Bay we stayed in a super nice hotel. We got a private house with a beautiful view over the beach. The food was included and was really super good (steak / tuna steak). There was a lot to do and we would have liked to stay longer.
Our 1 day tour to La Sirena ranger station in Corcovado started out great. While sailing we already spotted whales! We also spotted a lot of animals in La Sirena such as a tapir, various species of monkeys, agouti’s and more.

Check our travel blog for more information, we visited La Sirena on day 27.

In Casa Drake we stayed in a new wooden house with porch in the garden, beautiful! Our Costa Rican hosts welcomed us warmly and spoiled us with great food! . The first day we walked around in the area, also to the entrance of the NP Corcovado (only two kilometers away). There we met two park rangers and a woman named Celia, who lived in a hut opposite the park house. She guided us into the forest and told a lot about the environment and how she herself lived and tried to make ends meet. She had fruit trees and medicinal plants in her garden, built by her grandfather. But the house was no more than a hut with an outdoor kitchen. A fascinating, unforgettable meeting. We also received delicious coffee from the park rangers!

The son of the family at Casa Drake, Edward, spoke good English and arranged a birdwatching tour at our request. We did that the second day, just from the lodge and it was fantastic. Our guide was a young woman, Elly Maria.

Our visit to Drake Bay was really too short! We snorkeled and went to the Corcovado National park. This was possible because we took the afternoon water taxi following the advice of the hotel. Hotel staff was really nice, very involved and we enjoyed the great food too!

We really enjoyed our stay and the hotel was fantastic. All our meals were included and very tasty. We had wonderfully warm weather, our house had a fantastic sea view and we were able to dive. To us, dive site was not really special, since we are very experienced divers,  but you might be lucky and spot something really nice like turtles or whales.

We found all our destinations very beautiful, but Drake Bay we all liked very much. The pristine nature, the rugged ocean, picnicking in Corcovado three meters away from a sleeping tapir and 10 meters from a swimming shark ….incredible!

To us the highlight of our holiday was our stay in Corcovado at Pirate Cove. We really loved it here and definitely want to come back!
