Hiking in Panama

You can make plenty beautiful hikes around El Valle de Anton. For example, explore the nearby mountain peaks and hike to so-called ‘La India Dormida’ (the sleeping Indian) route. You will encounter farmers and students who walk this trail every day. On your return, you might want to relax in the waterfalls and natural hotsprings of Pozos Termales.

In addition to hiking a trail, you can also discover the flora and fauna from beyond and book a canopy tour! Bird watchers alert: more than 300 bird species live in this area. You can spot them in the Cerro Gaital national park, but also in the garden of your own cabaña.

In El Valle de Anton you stay in basic cabañas within walking distance of the town center. Breakfast is not included, but the friendly owners will be happy to recommend you one of  the various eateries in the village. You can also prepare your own breakfast in your little bungalow.

In Valle de Anton we stayed in a nice hotel with friendly staff. We had dinner there all 3 evenings. The food took a while, but this was well worth the wait!

We have done a bird watch tour with Mario Bernal in Valle de Anton. Very recommended!

We had such a great time in El Valle de Anton! It is a typical Panamanian village where you can make great hikes and dine deliciously. We were painfully confronted with our physical conditions when we hiked the ‘La India dormida’ trail. We were overtaken by schoolgirls and elderly people who walk up and down the mountain every day!

Tip from Linda:

If you are tired after a hike in the mountains, you can go relax in the thermal baths in the village. It might not look very luxurious, but it is great to take a mud mask and soak in a hot mineral bath. And the best part is that the locals also come to relax here. A great opportunity to have a nice chat!
