Junquillal

Junquillal

Junquillal is a small and quiet community with an amazing beach. The town is not far from tourist destinations like Tamarindo, but here you can still experience the authentic relaxed, laidback life-near-the-beach in Costa Rica. The hotel owners know their way around town and inform you about must-see’s and do’s during your stay.

Be sure to visit the nearby pearly white Avellanas beach where a Dutch guy opened the cosy beach bar Lola’s, named after his pig that he regularly takes for a swim in the ocean! From the nearby and often empty beach, you can enjoy spectacular sunsets and most likely you’ll spot some turtles during your stay. Junquillal is a nesting place for several species of turtles. You can visit the Junquillal Turtle Conservation, where you can learn more about how the turtles are protected. WWF used to run a project in Junquillal to involve the local community to monitor the beach, for example, to keep poachers away from the nests.

Remco and Louise

We really enjoyed our stay with Lieke and Michiel. The bungalows were very nice, each had a different style. We dined at the hotel every evening, just because the food was so great! There is a lot to do in the area, but you can also relax on beautiful quiet beaches.

We went kayaking through the mangrove forests and we enjoyed the absolute silence that was only disturbed by the sound of birds and some howler monkeys in the distance.

Our whole family liked Junquillal a lot. We enjoyed our time with Lieke and Michiel and the great food of course! Our tip is to book a turtle tour at the  junquillal turtle conservation The guides are really nice and it’s a great excursion with kids as well.

John and Helma

The final destination during our holiday was Junquillal. Here the climate was dry and hot, so we saw very different flora and fauna. We enjoyed the turtle tour and the nearby, quiet beach. Although the coast can be very touristy, we really enjoyed our stay in the quiet town of Junquillal. Lieke and Michiel were wonderful hosts who provided us with delicious food and nice conversations.

We liked our stay in Junquillal. Good food and very nice hotel owners. We explored the area and liked the nearby town of Tamarindo. Back at the hotel we liked the nearby beach; it’s 3 km long and you’re pretty much the only one enjoying it.

We also booked a zipline tour and that was really great! We had lunch at Lola, a really nice restaurant on the beach.

In Junquillal we stayed at a great location and we had a real click with the owners who shared their life story with us.

Our breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious and you feel that Lieke, the owner, is really putting her heart into it. We had a wonderful time here exploring the area. Playa Avellanas was a favourite, what a relaxed atmosphere here. In short, we wouldn’t have wanted to miss this place, beautiful surroundings and fantastic hospitality at Mundo Milo!

What can you see in and around Junquillal?
