Surfing in Las Peñitas

Just 20 minutes from the city of León you will find the best beach in Nicaragua. The pleasant, coastal village of Las Peñitas is a great spot for surfing and relaxation. Because of its 2 km long beach this place is very popular with both Nicaraguans and foreign travellers. Here, you can chill and relax on the beach, escaping the heat of the city of León.

Las Peñitas is a lively village with many nice hotels, restaurants and bars. You can take surfing lessons or rent a surfboard, or just take a refreshing dive. If you fancy a longer hike, you can walk all the way down to the adjacent beach of Poneloya.

Isla Juan Venado

A tour to the Isla Juan Venado reserve is a must-do. You explore the mangroves by boat and will be able to spot many different types of birds. In addition, you can stop at a turtle project and depending on the season and the time, turtles are nesting or giving birth to their babies. A great experience!

Nicole

It was wonderful to dive into the ocean here after we had been in León. Las Penitas is really up and coming and there are nice bars and restaurants to sit, relax and enjoy good food and drinks. Just before sunset we made a trip through the mangroves and saw many beautiful birds. We did not know we would also stop at a turtle project. We had such great luck and spotted baby turtles making their way towards the sea, so nice !!
