Glamping on the beach

Your glamping destination is definitely special and unique. You find this place in the quiet village of Matapalo on the Pacific coast. Matapalo attracts only a few tourists and breaths the typical laid-back, relaxed atmosphere of Costa Rica’s coastal towns.

You will stay in a spacious and luxurious safari tent, right at the beach front: the ultimate location for glamping at the beach in Costa Rica! Wake up with the sound of the waves and choose if you want a morning dive in the sea or in the pool next to your tent. Breakfast is included in your stay, for lunch and dinner, you can try the local restaurants or make your own in the communal kitchen of the beach camp.

Trips and activities

The beach camp invites you to relax, but the owners also organize a fantastic kayak tour through the mangroves. This is a great way to spot birds, crocodiles, monkeys and other wildlife up close.

In the vicinity you can also make nice trips.  Surf hot spot Dominical is only some 20 minutes and the village, in addition to the good waves for (novice) surfers, is also known for the Nauyaca waterfalls and the nature tours at Hacienda Baru. The beautiful beaches near Uvita and Ojochal and the national park Marina Ballena are also nearby and  definitely worth a visit.

Schalken family

We really enjoyed our stay at Rafiki Beach! Alex is a nice man who knows a lot about the surroundings and the natural environment. This is the best place for glamping at the beach in Costa Rica!

Rafiki Beach, what a fantastic place that is! Manager Alex was super nice and we enjoyed the  fantastic views from our tent. Fun things we have done and definitely can recommend: a visit to Rafiki Lodge (delicious lunch and great waterslide from the terrace down into the garden), visiting San Isidro, very nice and lively city, to go on a canoe tour with Alex, exploring the mangrove. Alex knows a lot about nature and likes to share his knowledge, he makes a great guide!

Rafiki Beach Camp was a great stop coming back from National Park Corcovado.  It’s a relaxed place where we could recover from our intense stay in Corcovado. Nice that there is a nice pool, the sea is often too wild for the children! The tents are wonderfully comfortable, with nice bathrooms. We also liked to use the communal kitchen to make our own lunch or dinner.

Highlight of our stay at Rafiki (or maybe even our holiday in Costa Rica)? The monkeys on our tents!!

When you spend the night at the Rafiki Beach Camp, you are in paradise! If you do not want to cook in the communal kitchen in the evening, drive to Matapalo, there are a few nice restaurants and on the other side of the highway you can enjoy Costa Rican specialties and ‘seafood’ at ‘La Langosta Feliz’ or in other words the ‘Happy  Lobster’, a must!

What can you see around Matapalo?
